20 Favorite Super Nintendo Games

Posted in Games on February 22nd, 2010 by namzep – 3 Comments

I’ve been on a Super Nintendo kick recently, playing both Super Mario All-Stars and Earthbound and it got me thinking about all the great games that I played on the system. The 20 games listed below are my favorite SNES games, not what I would consider the 20 most popular or technically advanced games. The games are not listed in any particular order:

Earthbound
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy III
Super Mario World
F-Zero
ActRaiser
Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind
Donkey Kong Country
Illusion of Gaia
Joe & Mac
the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
NBA Jam: Tournament Ed.
SimCity
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
Super Bomberman
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario All-Stars
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Tetris & Dr. Mario
Uniracers

First off, let me state that this is not a best of list. This is a list of the games for the DS that I have enjoyed the most. I am not a huge RPG player so there are only a few on the list. I really enjoy puzzle games so that list will have a bunch of those on it. The list is in no particular order (as that changes almost daily as I play or replay games). Here are the games:

Professor Layton
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the WarLords
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Disgaea DS
Geometry Wars: Galaxies
LEGO Indiana Jones: The Orignal Adventures
Luminous Arc 2
Picross DS
Planet Puzzle League
Worms Open Warfare
Tetris DS
New Super Mario Brothers
Super Mario 64 DS
the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Bust-a-Move
New York Times Crosswords
Retro Game Challenge
Mario Kart DS
Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard
Peggle Dual Shot

Completely Stripped

I took a few hours this morning and finished stripping out the cocktail table. Pretty much the only hardware left is actually holding together the structure of the cabinet. Now, I begin some minor repair work and get the thing reassembled. The only problem that I’m going to have to overcome at the moment is that it looks like I’ll need to replace the joys as they’re basically structured totally for 2-way movement and I really want a 4-way stick, at least, in the cabinet. Here’s what it look’s like now:

Cocktail Deconstruction

Tonight, I worked on taking everything out of the cocktail so that I can fix up the outside/repaint it and start from scratch when I’m adding everything back in.

It started out like this:

A Little Work Done

Posted in Games on July 27th, 2009 by namzep – Be the first to comment

I only had time to do a little bit of work on my cocktail project this weekend. The Cocktail table was/currently is an Astro Blaster that is playing blind (the monitor is having problems with either the horizontal or vertical hold). Instead of screwing with that I have decided to strip out the components inside, throw in a 13″ computer monitor (decased), and use a 48-in-1 board (though, I will edit what roms are on it). So far I have stripped out all 5 boards that comprised the Astro Blaster game and removed the metal case that they were enclosed in. The cabinet itself will need one leg shored up and a little paint but is in overall great shape for it’s age (the table’s from 1981).

Welcome to my Arcade Build/Restore Log

This page will be where I update my repairing/restoring/building of arcade machines (and probably other video game related projects). Currently, I own 4 upright machines (two Atari’s that need some serious work, a Pole Position II, and a very nice condition Pit Fighter) and 1 cocktail table (currently an Astro Blaster but soon to be converted to a 48-in-1). I will post photos as I go into my repairs but for now you can check out my arcade pictures at http://www.pezchasers.net/games/arcade/.
